RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Vashti, also known as @_vashtialiyah , who is the founder of @_wheretheladiesat which is a space that shines light on women in creative industries! Let’s see what respect female sneakerheads means to her.

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
To me, Respect Female Sneakerheads means just that. Growing up I always had sneakers, but it wasn’t always considered “lady like” to wear them all the time. I also played basketball so finding the balance of my feminine side in my every day wear was a challenge. Eventually I tapped into being creative with my outfits, hair, and sneakers. Once I found my stride, I figured out what sneakers worked for me, which ones didn’t, and also which sneakers were solid staples that I could match with anything while being prissy yet edgy at the same time. As females we have the ability to switch into so many different persona’s and that goes for footwear as well. Many of us have knowledge of the footwear game, and have been in this wayyyy longer than those now. As a female I want to walk in a male dominated sneaker boutique, and get the same treatment as I would in a Aldo or Steve Madden.
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
My biggest inspirations in footwear would have to start with Teyana Taylor just because of how dedicated she’s been to the game since forever. She doesn’t get enough flowers for than but she walked the marathon so we can run! I would also say I have been heavily influenced by Rihanna’s influence in the footwear game with the Fenty x Puma sneaker collaborations. Those really had a huge handprint not only in footwear but high fashion as well.
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Wow this is a great question! I would like to be recognized not only as someone that has a love for sneakers, but a love for culture. Yes I’m a female, yes I’m “cute” or whatever lol, but I can range from Run DMC “my adidas” in the 80’s, to Jordan & Tinker Hatfield in the 90’s, to early 00’s Kanye College dropout Bapesta, or 10’s Pharrell superstar super color pack. Many females who are obsessed in the shoe space are also obsessed with culture and have deep range, you just have to recognize it. Community, culture, and those who inhabit it make up the same space. So I’d like to be treated as a cultural enthusiast, my bag ranges past Jordan 1’s

Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. Vashti definitely hit on a very good point, we do love sneakers but we are also well versed in many things especially the sneaker culture! I hope my blog can help give more women the voice they deserve and to be seen in a way they deserve!
