Meet Sonya Mellerson aka @so_not_mello

RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Sonya also known as @so_not_mello on IG! She is the founder of Style and Sneaker Association which was “created in response to the lack of recognition given to the black queer influence on fashion, style, and streetwear”. Let’s see what respect female Sneakerheads means to her!

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Respect female sneakerheads means recognize and appreciate women in the sneaker community. It means valuing our input with the same opportunities, exposure, visibility, and representation given to men.

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

I really look up to Mo @mobumbbbaaa ! I’ve always admired her fits and how she styles her kicks with the perfect fit, however it is her personality and genuine spirit that I cherish to most. She is always willing to help and uplift others in the sneaker community and she’s just down to earth!! I just believe that you can never have too many authentic and sincere people in this world.

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

I would change the lack of inclusivity for ALL women in the sneaker community. Regardless of race, sexuality, gender identity, and size, all women in the sneaker community deserve respect and recognition.

Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. Sonya hits on some good points especially about the lack of inclusivity, that has to change! I hope my blog can help give more women the voice they deserve and to be seen in a way they deserve!
