RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Tori also known as Art Mami also know as @t.money444 ,an amazing artist with a dope sneaker collection! Let’s see what respect female sneakerheads means to her!
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
To me, respect female sneakerheads means having an understanding that our love and appreciation for sneakers is no less than a man’s. We all have our own personal connections to sneakers and it should be something that brings us as a collective together rather than dividing us. Women have as much of a hand in cultivating the sneaker culture as men do, so we deserve respect and to be treated equally.
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
I really look up to Aleali May for her ability to tell stories through the sneakers she designs. The stories behind sneakers are the reason I am a sneakerhead because I feel like that leaves a mark in history. Storytelling make the sneakers more than just a shoe and I feel like that’s why she’s made such an impact in the industry.
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
I think the narrative should be shifted from women creating sneakers for women only releases and instead allowing women to create for everyone because sneakers should be gender neutral. Women are very detail oriented by nature and I feel like if we were put in spaces to create for everyone it can be a shift in the industry that we need right now.
