RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from TJ, a woman who has amazing style, personality, a dope sneaker collection, AND her YouTube channel not only speaks about sneakers but it also gives her viewers opportunities to learn the importance of saving and budgeting money! Buying sneakers is what we love but learning about fiancés and budgeting is just as important! Let’s see what respect female sneakerheads means to TJ!

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
For me, respect female sneakerheads means to acknowledge our presence, especially when it’s outside the little box that society and narrow-minded individuals crafted for us. There is no quintessential female sneakerhead because my story in sneakers is valid, just as the next woman’s and the next. Each woman’s shine in sneakers opens the door for more respect, so shine bright sis.
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
We could write a book on the women I look up to on sneakers and thankfully we have two in The First Pair and The Next Pair by Christyna Pourhabib, showcasing game changers in the sneaker game.
For me, this powerful woman is a living testament to dream bigger than big, colossal, and watch those dreams come to life when you operate in your creativity. I’m talking about none other than Beija Marie Velez (@beijamvelez), from designing the WNBA 25th Anniversary Basketball to her very own sneaker with adidas, she bridges the world of sport and sneakers like a stylish architect.
Beija is a testament women create magic behind the scenes, on the scene and in ways we’ve never imagined. She does it with her electric style, for each project she’s apart of I’m always tuned in, first to the kicks but next to her positive impact on the next young woman up.
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
If I could change one thing in how women are perceived in the sneaker community, it would be the understanding, as a whole, the shift of amazingly executed women’s exclusives is a newer phenomenon and LONG overdue. Too often, men complain in current day “the good collaborations or colorways are only for women”. It’s negated that since the rise of sneakers with brands such as Adidas in the 1940s, releases have always included men as the targeted consumer. It’s finally our time and appreciated, so let us enjoy brands making up for willfully lost time for women.

Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. TJ definitely hit on a good point about brands finally making up for lost time when it comes to the heavy emphasis being put on women’s releases, IT IS OUR TIME!. I hope my blog can help give more women the voice they deserve and to be seen in a way they deserve!
