Meet Erin!

RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Erin, also known as @footwear.n.foliage on IG! Let’s see what Respect Female Sneakerheads means to her!

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Respect Female sneakerheads means to me exactly what’s in the name RESPECT, but with that also representation and support. All those things already exist in the sneaker community but primarily in the men’s category since the sneaker game is and has been primarily men, which needs to change. Women have been in the sneaker game just as long but have been overlooked and underrepresented which Respect Female sneakerheads is changing 🙌

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

This question includes 2 women for me. These two women I look up to in the sneaker community because one designed a shoe and the other woman it was made for. As a former basketball player myself, the shoes for women were pretty limited and the fact that there was even a section for women, I have to thank Marni Gerber ( the designer) and Sheryl Swoopes (the player). Sheryl Swoopes was the first female basketball player to have a shoe designed for her and to have the first women’s basketball shoe, which was design by a female! Nike Air Swoopes got overlooked though since Jordan dropped a bunch of sneakers around the same time and they were blowing up like crazy!

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

What I would change in the sneaker community about how women are treated and perceived is fairness. Fairness keeps coming into mind especially with sizing and opportunities to cop sneakers that we love just as much as men do. The sizing limits a lot of those chances and this also includes the women’s exclusive drops, which I love, don’t get me wrong, but the exclusives limits everyone, men and women. I, as a female, want just as much of a chance to cop as a man but my size isn’t always available and I’m sure that happens the other way around also. So unisex sizing please! Representation is another big thing for me, there are so many amazing women in the sneaker community with their own unique style and individuality, and I wish brands like Nike/Jordan or even consignment shops would represent us more!

Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. Erin makes an excellent point, WE NEED UNISEX SIZING!! The conversation surrounding this is happening but I’m not sure if brands are ready to make this change! I truly hope these words from words from Erin gave you some good insight on where she stands!
