RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Mon, also know as @monskickz on IG. Let’s see what respect female sneakerheads means to her!

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
I’ve started collecting in 2009 and Sneaker culture was extremely male dominated. I feel like female sneakerheads always had to fight to get the seat at the table – lack of inclusive sizing, gatekeeping by men, discouraged by others because its not feminine to collect trainers, right? But we’ve been doing our thing and showing the world how WE can be part of the Sneaker culture, too. We were loud and outspoken so brands could hear us and they started doing better (still long way to go though!). We’ve been getting more acknowledgement, more features, more attention. I feel like the respect is much bigger than what it used to be, but we still gotta educate people how WE ARE PART OF THE GAME TOO, so give us our flowers.
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
I don’t think I can name one woman to be honest. There is so many. I’m always finding inspiring women! I gotta give a special shout out to @key2ursole who has so many gems in her collection, never fails to amaze me and keeps people on their toes! Love the variety of kicks she has & some pairs I’ve never seen before.
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
I would make ALL RELEASES available in women sizing. Saying this, I can wear both – women’s and men’s releases, I’m lucky, but I still feel for my fellow female sneakerheads who can’t. And it sucks when you want something but it doesn’t come in your size.

Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. Mon definitely hit on a good point, we deserve to have releases in women’s size too! Allow women the chance to cop the same sneakers as men! I hope my blog can help give more women the voice they deserve and to be seen in a way they deserve!
