RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Katie Alexis, also known as @kurvykatie on IG. Katie is a sneaker enthusiast with an amazing collection and she is the co founder of @thicklaces which is a community for plus size women who love kicks and streetwear! Let’s see what respect female sneakerheads means to Katie!
What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?
That women are apart of this community too. We don’t need to be quizzed by men to prove our love for kicks. Or mansplained about this culture as if we do not have the knowledge.
Who is one woman in the sneaker community you up to and why?
OK so I’m about to take you back in time. Mines is an OG and her name is Sporty Spice. Growing up I would always look forward to see what new sneakers she was going to wear and my love for Air Max came from that.
If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?
Listen to us. There are so many diverse women in the sneaker community that do not have a voice and it really irks me.
Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. Katie makes an excellent point, we have so many women in the community but not enough of them have a voice, that has to change! I hope my blog can help give more women the voice they deserve!
