Meet Destiny

RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Destiny, also known as @de24iny on IG. Destiny has an amazing sneaker collection and she’s also apart of KickzNVibez, a community for sneakerheads based in St Louis, MO. Let’s see what Respect Female Sneakerheads means to her!

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

It’s crazy that we have to put a title on it, but it’s simply pre and misjudged. Automatically it’s assumed that a sneakerhead is a male. So the fact that they need to put some respect on it excites me. I love having to correct them when they say “he got some heat” or “dang, he got them, too.” The look on their faces is simply priceless. I think by correcting them builds that respect a little bit more. Being a female sneakerhead validates the fact that we have a space as well, and it also is sneakers.

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

Oh, sheesh! I can’t just pick one, but I do have a few I can name because of their platforms and versatility. @tyyoung11 has always been heavy in the sneaker game; before the deal with Reebok! I’ve always watched her move. I’ve always been a Tom boy so I gravitate toward @TeyanaTaylor as well. There’s so many to name and appreciate. Honestly every day I find myself loving all the female sneakerheads on my timeline so I can’t name them all. We sure do show endless love and appreciation for whatever we have going on and that pulls on my heartstrings every time.

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

If I could change one thing about how women are treated or perceived is the fact that we deserve just as much. There are plenty of us that understand the sneaker game, appreciate the sneaker game, have the sneakers to go blow for blow, have the knowledge and beyond that, but it’s discredited because we are a woman. We need to have more women in power positions, managers, CEOs, head of businesses and corporations in the sneaker community. I just want it to make sense that these women releases are appearing on all men’s feet. But in order for that to change, women need to be in a position of power… we aren’t there yet, but we coming in full force.

These words from women in the sneaker community MATTER and I believe one of the ways for us to receive more RESPECT is to hear from us what It truly means and what it looks like to us! I hope you enjoyed hearing from Destiny and learned alot!
