Meet Callahan

RESPECT! That is what women deserve in the sneaker community so my goal is for you to meet some of these women via my blog so you can get an understanding on how they feel. There are 3 major questions that come to mind for this topic:

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Who is one woman in the sneaker community you look up to and why?

If you could change one thing about how women are treated and/or perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

Who else is better to learn from then the women within the community? Today we will hear from Callahan, a woman who shows support to all no matter what!

What does respect female sneakerheads mean to you?

Being a female sneakerhead, so often you can feel like you’re existing in a space that was not built for you, and there are plenty of men who are happy to remind you too. To me, respect is a sense of being welcomed and allowed to belong. I greatly appreciate the supportive men in my communities who make space for women and uplift us in places we aren’t always given a platform. And I have the utmost respect for all the women who have come before me – especially Black women who have always been at the forefront of sneakers and streetwear – and have made it possible for myself and women like me today to be where we are now.

Who is one woman you look up to in the sneaker community and why?

First I have to start by saying there are way too many amazing women in sneakers to name and any of them could have been listed here. But 100% I look up to Heather Jones aka the queen HennyKicksIt. I respect and admire her a great deal because she isn’t afraid to share her thoughts, even when it isn’t popular. She’s defining an authentic voice for herself, and that’s something we always need as women in this space when too often we are accused of not knowing our stuff simply because we are women. She does – and she talks it. Just check out her Instagram or podcast and you’ll get it!

If you could change one thing about how women are treated/perceived in the sneaker community, what would it be?

It’s past time that women are seen by all as innovators, taste makers, early adopters. We are not here to just buy some dunks because our boyfriends said they are cute or accept pickings of smaller sizes of less-desirable colorways. When I think about who I look to for my style inspiration, I think of WNBA tunnel walks and female artists’ on-tour ensembles. No one is putting looks together like the ladies these days; that recognition has been more than earned.

Hearing these words from different women in the sneaker community is so inspiring! Each lady brings a different view point and perspective. Callahan made a good point, overlooking us is old because we are the innovators and taste makers, we set the trends!! I hope my blog can help give more women the voice they deserve and to be seen in a way they deserve!
